  • Q. What activates the system, heat or smoke?
      A. HEAT - One of the four (4) fusible or reusable links separate and release tension on the cable assembly, which activates the valve assembly, releasing the extinguisher agent.

  • Q. At what temperature does the system activate?
      A.212°  F for electric ranges and 360°  F for gas ranges.

  • Q. What type of agent is in the cylinder?
      A. ANSULEX Wet Chemical - In simple terms, it is a salt solution that has a chemical reaction with hot grease. When the solution comes into contact with hot grease, it foams up, forming a barrier that puts out the fire.


  • Q. Does the ANSULEX reaction to grease leave a mess to clean up?
      A. No -The agent is easily cleaned up with soap and water and is contained to the range top itself.


  • Q. Are the nozzels in a fixed position?
    A. Yes - the nozzle assembly is attached under the range hood and has a swivel on each nozzle for proper alignment.


  • Q. Does the system provide for fuel shut-off?
      A. YES - Gas or Electric shutoffs are provided.


  • Q.How much ANSULEX is in the cylinder?
      A. 2.5 lbs., by weight or approximately 29 oz.


  • Q. How long does it take to install a Guardian I?
      A.
    The system is pre-engineered and pre-assembled and takes approximately one (1) hour to install, excluding shutoffs.

  • Q. Is the system U.L. listed?
      A.
    YES! Under the category of Residential Range Top Fire Protection, which is tested to Subject 300A.

  • Q. How long does it take to activate once a fire is detected?
      A. 35 - 45 seconds.


  • Q. Does the system completely discharge? How long does it discharge?
      A. YES! 40 - 45 seconds.


  • Q. Is the system rechargeable?
      A. YES - It recharges the same way a portable extinguisher does.


  • Q. What kind of maintenance is required?
      A. The extinguisher cylinder is required to be hydrostatically tested every 12 years. Standard links need to be replaced annually. If reusable links are used, no annual replacement is required. Visually inspect all nozzles and piping annually.
