Guardian Model G300-A Frequently Asked Questions
|
- Q. What power source is used to operate the unit?
A. The 9-volt alkaline battery is the sole power source for the main CPU. The gas shutoff also has a 9-volt battery. The electric shutoff operates from the stove's current.
- Q. What activates the system, heat or smoke?
A. HEAT -- The sensors (diodes) heat up and drop the voltage to zero, thus sending a signal to the circuit board.
- Q. At what temperature does the system activate?
A. 360° - 370° F for both gas and electric ranges.
- Q. What type of agent is in the cylinder?
A. ANSULEX Wet Chemical -- In simple terms, it is a salt solution that has a chemical reaction with hot grease. When the solution comes into contact with hot grease, it foams up, forming a barrier that puts out the fire.
- Q. Does the ANSULEX reaction to grease leave a mess to clean up?
A. No - The agent is easily cleaned up with soap and water and is contained to the range top itself.
- Q. Are the nozzles in a fixed position?
A. NO - the nozzle assembly is magnetically attached under the range hood and has a swivel assembly on each nozzle for proper alignment.
- Q. Does the system provide for fuel shut-off?
A. YES - both the gas and electric stoves are turned off by a sonic activated wireless shutoff that listens for an acoustical signal from the main CPU board alarm.
- Q. What is the quantity of the agent used?
A. 5 lbs. by weight, or approximately 58 oz.
- Q. Is there a low battery warning on the circuit board?
A. YES - when the voltage on the battery drops below 7 volts, the circuit board will "chirp" approximately every 45 seconds.
- Q. Can the system be connected to alarm systems?
A. YES! Provided on the circuit board is a set of dry contacts (normally open or normally closed) that transmits a 4 second impulse signal to be connected to an alarm system.
- Q. How long does it take to activate once a fire is detected?
A. Depending on the height of the hood it could be 60 - 120 seconds.
- Q. Does the system completely discharge? How long does it discharge?
A. YES! 40-45 Seconds.
- Q. Is the system rechargeable?
A. YES - It recharges the same way a portable extinguisher does.
- Q. What kind of maintenance is required?
A. It is recommended to replace the battery(ies) annually. Additionally, both nozzles and sensors, as well as the pressure gauge should be visually inspected annually. The extinguisher cylinder is required to be hydrostatically tested every 12 years.
- Q. How long does it take to install?
A. The system, excluding shutoffs, takes approximately 20 minutes to install. Electric shutoffs plug in and take approximately five (5) minutes to install. Gas shutoffs require a gas valve to be installed and may take 20 - 30 minutes for installation.
- Q. Is the system U.L. listed?
A. YES! Under the category of Residential Range Top Fire Protection, which is tested to Subject 300A
